Burn Day — Last updated August 22, 2026
Burn Day shows today's open-burning status for the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO). This policy explains what data the app does — and does not — collect.
Data We Collect
None. Burn Day does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to us. There are no user accounts, no sign-in, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.
How the App Works
- The app fetches publicly available burn-status data (today's status and season history) from our own server over a standard HTTPS request. No information about you or your device is sent with these requests.
- If you enable notifications, your device's push token is sent to our server so it can notify you around 8:15am on days burning is permitted. No other information is attached to that token.
- If you enable "Sync to Burn Day Calendar," the app uses Apple's EventKit framework to write burn-status entries into a calendar on your own device. This data stays on your device (and syncs only through your own iCloud account, the same as any other calendar entry) — it is never sent to us.
- If you type an address into Settings, the app uses Apple's Maps search to suggest matching addresses as you type. What you type is sent to Apple to find matches — not to us — and is governed by Apple's own privacy policy. We never see it.
- The optional Full Legal Name, Property Address, Phone Number, and Email Address fields in Settings are stored only in the app's local settings on your own device. They are used solely to pre-fill the "Request Burn Permit" email you choose to send, and are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
- The app does not access your device's location, contacts, camera, or microphone.
Third Parties
Burn Day does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The only third party involved is Apple, via the standard EventKit (Calendar), MapKit (address search), and push notification frameworks described above — no data is shared with anyone else.
Data Retention
Since nothing is collected on our end beyond your device's push token (used only to route notifications), there is nothing tied to your identity retained on any server. Local settings remain on your device until you delete the app.
Children's Privacy
Burn Day does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.
