Burn Day

Is Burn Day an official RDCO app?

No. Burn Day is an independent app and is not affiliated with or operated by RDCO or the Government of British Columbia. It displays the same public open-burning data RDCO itself publishes.

Where does the data come from?

Today's status, Venting Index, and PM2.5 readings come directly from RDCO's own public data feed, fetched automatically each day.

Why does the site say “Data Unavailable”?

RDCO typically publishes each day's reading once, around 8am Pacific. Outside that window, “Data Unavailable” is expected, not a bug.

Do I still need a permit on a Burn Day?

Yes. Open burning always requires a valid permit from RDCO, even on a day when burning is permitted.

What does the Venting Index Threshold toggle do?

RDCO requires a Venting Index of at least 55 to permit burning. If you'd rather apply a stricter personal bar, switch to 65 — the status shown here (and in the Season History calendar) will recompute using whichever threshold you pick. This choice is saved on your device only.

Why didn't I get a notification? (app only)

Make sure “Notify When Burning Is Permitted” is on in the app's Settings, and that iOS Settings → Notifications → Burn Day allows notifications. The notification only fires on days burning is actually permitted — no news is expected otherwise.

Is my information collected?

No. Burn Day collects nothing — no accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Your chosen Venting Index threshold is stored only in your browser (or on your device, in the app) and is never sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy for details.
